Reminders
- Transportation: Transportation is NOT provided for any All-Region events.
- Dress: The judges do not see you. You are welcome to wear your Staley gear, but it is not required. Dress comfortably and we encourage you to dress in layers so you can throw your hoodie on if you are cold or take it off if you are warm.
- What to bring: Your instrument, your music, and a pencil. Note that SOME music stands will be provided, but the only way to guarantee you have one is to bring your personal folding stand. If you do so make sure you have your name on it and be sure to fold it up and put it away when you are done warming up.
- Instrument Issues: There will be a repairman on site, but the band staff will be in rooms judging. If you have any issues please look for a contest official and ask for help.
- Timeline: Plan to leave an hour before your audition, warm up 30 minutes before your audition, and about 10 minutes before your audition you check in to your room. Rooms average a little over an hour after your time.
- Parents: Parents are welcome to stay in the cafeteria, but note that parents are not allowed in the hallways where auditions are being held. You are welcome drop your child off and come back about an hour and a half later.
- Results: Note that students should leave when their audition is over. Results will be posted later that night (on the link above) or the next day. If you advance from phase 1 you will be assigned a time for Saturday morning. We will forward that information as soon as we receive it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is All-Region?
All-Region (AR) is an individual competition where students work up pieces of music (called etudes) and perform for a panel of judges. This contest is open to all the middle schools in the area and involves thousands of students. Our middle school region includes so many band students that we split into two zones. If you make it past two rounds you earn a spot in one of five bands and are an 'All-Region Band Member''. This is a huge accomplishment as this group represents some of the best young musicians in the entire state! If you earn this honor you will perform with your group as a member of the All-Region Band.
Do I have to participate in All-Region?
No, only students who choose to participate, attend all events, and meet director standards can participate.
Do I have to participate in AR Sectionals?
Yes, ALL students attend AR sectionals for the first two weeks to allow the band directors a chance to introduce the music and explain the process. Many times students see the music and think it is either too hard or just don't know how to get started. The band staff will go slow and introduce each of the two selections in depth and offer students time to ask questions. At the end of two weeks students who choose NOT to compete will switch to large group sectionals.
When do I have to decide if I want to try out for AR?
Week 2 is the official start, but students can decide one way or the other within the first five weeks of school. Students choosing to stay in will be expected to sign the All-Region Contract, attend all required events leading up to the contest, and pay a participation fee.
What do I have to play for the audition?
Woodwinds and Brass: two scales by memory, chromatic by memory, and a portion of two etudes (using the music)
Percussion, Mallet scale, Snare etude, Timpani etude
