Private Lessons
Private lessons play a vital role in the well-rounded success of a musician. They are meant for someone who is top of their class AND who may be struggling with something on their instrument. Lessons take place one-on-one with a professional musician and is strongly encouraged for ALL students!
Our lesson staff have either a masters or doctorate in music and have been interviewed and background checked by FISD. Private lessons can occur during a students band class or before/after school depending on the schedule set up between the family and instructor. The rate is set by the district (currently $23 for half of a class period) and scholarships are available through the Band Parent Association. Note that students on scholarship pay $11 per lesson and the BPA pay $12 per lesson.

WHAT ARE PRIVATE LESSONS?
Private lessons are a 1-1 session with a professional specializing in your student's instrument. Most of our lesson staff have multiple degrees with some having earned their doctorate in music performance! We are truly blessed to offer some of the finest lesson teachers you will find.
wHO NEEDS THEM?
EVERYONE! Private lessons are highly recommended for any and all abilities. Whether you are excelling at your instrument or struggling with a concept, private lessons are strongly encouraged.
Why are lessons important?
Just like a team sport, we are only as strong as our individuals. By having all individuals at their top potential through practicing and lessons, that further improves our team and overall Staley Band program.
Who teaches lessons?
Highly trained professionals with a Bachelors and sometimes Masters or Doctorate in performance of that instrument. These individuals are also screened/vetted through the official Frisco ISD background check and fingerprinting process.
When do lessons occur?
Most lessons will occur during your student's band class unless a time before or after school is scheduled. Most time slots during the band class will be claimed first so please contact early. Lesson days and times are on a first-come, first-served basis dependent on the Instructor’s availability. Many of our instructors teach at multiple schools, so please take this into consideration when scheduling your child’s lesson day and time.
Will my students miss out on classroom instruction?
Private Lessons allow students the opportunity to reinforce what is being taught daily in class, as well as the advantage of learning certain instrument techniques ahead of his/her classmates. Any and all instruction with a private instructor will support and help your child excel in band class regardless of any minutes missed in class. Private lessons are highly encouraged!
What type of commitment are lessons?
It is our philosophy that a student commits to taking private lessons for an entire school year.
How much do lessons cost?
$23 per lesson. These lessons happen every week. It is preferred that lessons be paid for in full at the beginning of each month. Each individual lesson teacher will have their preferred options and payment schedule they will discuss with you.
Who do i pay for lessons?
You would pay directly to the private instructor. A band director will help set up the initial contact and teacher match but all payment goes to the private instructor. Some of our Instructors provide monthly invoices to ensure proper documentation of each lesson the student attends. Please understand that teaching lessons is how many of our Instructors make a living. We ask that payments be prompt and
is there financial aid available?
Yes, if funds are available then we may be able to offer financial assistance to those who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. This program resets every year on July 1st and families enroll through FISD (visit www.friscocafe.org for info). Note that enrollment in previous years does not automatically enroll you for the following year. Be sure to let Mr. Wood know if you would still like to take lessons and need assistance.
