We are looking forward to another great year at Staley!  After Beginning Band students audition for placement in three advanced bands.  They are Concert, Honor, and Symphonic.

• Concert Band focuses on fundamentals like tone production, scales, and basic ensemble skills.  To help students progress we try to limit the number of students placed in Concert Band to maximize student to band director instruction.  In December all Concert Band students will have an opportunity to audition and move into Honor Band.
• Honor Band is a large performing group (50+ members) that teaches the same things as Concert Band, but at a little quicker pace.  The primary focus of Honor Band is to help the students learn what steps lead to successful performance. Honor Band is the 'Non-Varsity' band at Staley and will have multiple chances to compete and perform throughout the year.
• Symphonic Band is the 'Varsity' or top performing group at Staley.  This large ensemble focuses on advanced performing concepts that are meant to lead students to a successful  high school band experience.  There will be many opportunities to perform in both large and small ensembles as well as chances to develop strong individual playing.
• Jazz Band is open to all musicians at the start of the year and focuses on jazz history, developing correct style, and performance.  Before the semester break students will have an opportunity to audition for 'The Staley Stampede Jazz Ensemble'

We strongly encourage all advanced band students to enroll in private lessons.  Please consider having your student in this vital program as it allows students to not only catch up on requirements, but to work well ahead of the ensembles.  Remember, band is a team sport and we are only as strong as our weakest member.  Our personal goal is to have 80% of all 7^th and 8^th grade students study privately.  If you need assistance financially please talk to your student's director or complete the scholarship application.
