Advanced Bands:

This page is dedicated to Concert/Honor/Symphonic Bands as well as Staley Jazz.

Most of our communication will be done through this website or email.  If we do not have your email address please email Mr. Wood at woodc@friscoisd.org.

We are excited about this year and very pleased with our group’s progress so far!  Please be sure to check the appropriate calendar found in the forms page often for upcoming events.  For detailed grade and a breakdown of each event please refer to our 2008/09 Band Handbook.

To help us achieve our goals and perform at a high level we require all advanced band students to attend a sectional once a week.  This hour long sectional is our only chance to work on their individual parts without the band.  Please notify your director at least 24 hours in advance (in writing) if you are unable to attend sectionals.  Students who do not attend their regularly scheduled sectionals, whether excused, unexcused, or absent, are required to attend make-up sectionals before the end of the week.  We try to work out as many conflicts as possible and we thank you for your cooperation and communication in getting all students to their required sectional time.  The most current sectional schedule can be found on the schedule page.

We strongly encourage all advanced band students to enroll in private lessons.  Please consider enrolling your student in this vital program as it will only help out the rest of our group.  Remember, band is a team sport and we are only as strong as our weakest member.  Our personal goal is to have 90% of all 7th and 8th grade students study privately.  If you need assistance financially please talk to your student's director or complete the scholarship application.

Band Descriptions

Concert Band focuses on continued fundamentals and basic ensemble techniques.  To achieve maximum potential class size, as with beginning band, is small to allow more individual attention.  Concert Band prepares students for Honor or Symphonic Band.

Honor Band focuses on ensemble techniques and elements of performing.  This large ensemble relies on teamwork and is a crucial step in the development of all band students.  Honor Band will prepare students for Symphonic Band.

Symphonic Band is the top performing group at Staley.  This large ensemble maintains a very active performance schedule and relies heavily on student responsibility and communication.  The goal of Symphonic Band is to introduce more advanced music and prepare students for High School Band and beyond!

Staley 'Stampede' Jazz Band is an ensemble dedicated to learning the fundamentals of Jazz performance.  The Jazz Band is currently open to ALL instruments and will include many aspects of jazz including history, listening, and of course- performing!
